Personality:
To just about everyone in her world, Usagi Tsukino is a kind high school girl who has a bit of an appetite and a penchant for crying. She also happens to possibly be the most powerful being in her known universe, and with the help of her friends she routinely helps keep the planet Earth safe under the guise of Sailor Moon. Like her life and her past, there is much more to Usagi than what is first apparent.
Usagi's general disposition is rather light hearted and carefree. She cares greatly for her friends and loved ones, but in the same breath is not beyond teasing or scheming with them. She does have moments where things will get on her nerves, particularly when she's being teased. Despite her anger being quite pronounced at some points, she never really stays bent out of shape for long and oftentimes realizes when she's been wrong and will apologize for it. This happens several times when she's adjusting to Chibiusa, who manages to press her buttons more than others. However, the two grow quite close and after she's gone Usagi does miss her. It's fairly easy to call Usagi an outgoing person, especially in regards to other people.
Usa can be quite lazy about accomplishing things that she is not particularly interested in. This is immediately evident in her lack of performance in school in all subjects and managing to wake up on time in order to actually attend class on time. Her lack of interest in these subjects is not because she's stupid, but rather because she does not take the time to study and learn the things she needs to in order to excel in school. Her inability to remember a lot of kanji reflects this rather well. Though initially this laziness is accompanied by an extreme lack of coordination and battle ability, with the progression of the story line she becomes much more adept at fighting and defending herself. This is likely because her powers and abilities as a Sailor Senshi.
Usagi is also quite fond of food, and though her affinity for eating is not bad as some bottomless pit types in anime, she does tend to make more than her fair share of comments about hunger. In fact, one of the first few interactions she has with Makoto involves her attraction to Mako's cooking, and Usa's bottomless pit of a stomach. Interestingly enough this moment is one of bonding for the two girls.
Calling Usagi "kind" is a dramatic understatement. If the grinch is the epitome of having a small, shriveled heart, then Usagi would be his complete antithesis. Befriending other people comes easy to Usagi, and is easily one of her greatest strengths as a person. It's her ability to befriend dramatically different people that gives her access to such reliable allies and friends. This does not mean that she only befriends people that she needs as allies either. Quite the contrary in fact, as she cares for every one of her friends quite deeply. In specific, she befriends Ami solely to be her friend, rather than for any ulterior reason. This is a theme with her four inner senshi – in that she befriends them and brings a light to their life that they all seem to lack before meeting her this is really one of her most core strengths – giving her warmth and hope to others simply by bringing them together.
Usagi's kindness is not limited to being such towards her friends, as her kindness towards others is often extended towards those she does not yet know. A good example of this behaviour is her determination to believe that both Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus are allies, rather than conforming to the skepticism that the other senshi as well as Luna and Artemis show. This sort of faith is repeated when the starlights appear in the final arc. Usagi whole heartedly believes that they are meant to be allies, rather than enemies, even though the starlights are obviously from somewhere outside of the solar system. Even enemies are given compassion, especially Galaxia, to whom Usagi makes an effort to protect, even though moments before they had been fighting one another.
This sort of attitude and habit of extending trust to others so easily can classify Usagi as being somewhat naive, which can be seen as a rather large weakness. It potentially leaves her open to being hurt, by less than genuine people or an enemy trying to gain her trust for one reason or another. However this ability to believe in everyone is, none the less, one of her greatest strengths as well. It is very much an aspect in her character that causes people to gravitate to her, and an aspect of her that her friends strive to protect.
At the beginning of her story, Usagi is quite immature, but by the final chapters of the manga Usagi has grown into a rather capable and mature young woman who has found security in herself and the strength to face her enemies despite odds that outnumber her. This is a gradual growth that takes most of the series. By the time of the final arc of the manga Usagi has grown into her role as Sailor Moon, and more importantly into her role of protector. During her time in the cauldron, Usagi is told that it's because she exists that great darkness also exists. It is this realization that impresses upon Usagi the most that she is responsible for protecting and guiding not only her friends and loved ones but everyone. She embraces this destiny whole heartedly, and with the full intention of keeping absolutely everyone safe.
Her hope and determination are forces that drive her forward when most other people would give up and concede defeat. When faced with the losses of her friends and allies, she somehow finds the strength to keep moving forward, this strength being solidly held in her hope and belief that if she can triumph, her friends can return to her. This sort of determination and faith is why she tosses away the plea of Cosmos to destroy the Cauldron, and instead searches for a way to save -everyone- and still manage to keep the cauldron in existence. In her mind, it is irreconcilable to destroy the creation of all life in order to bring peace to a world. Instead, now that her maturity has fully blossomed, she accepts the responsibility as protector and vows to keep fighting and keep everyone safe in order to preserve the continuation of the galaxy.
Abilities:
First and Foremost, Usagi has the ability to become the evil fighting Sailor Suited Soldier Sailor Moon.
Usagi's abilities as a Sailor Senshi revolve around purification and healing. It is her power that manages to defeat the darkess that she and the other Senshi face as enemies in her world. In order to become Sailor Moon, Usagi uses the power of the Silver Crystal to transform into the heroine. This crystal is held in the brooch she wears on her uniform.
The silver crystal itself can only be used by people who are descendants of the royal bloodline of the moon of which Usagi is a reincarnation of, and even then only the women of the bloodline can use it. This means that only Usagi and her future daughter ChibiUsa are able to use the crystal's abilities despite the crystal often being the target of the enemies Usagi faces. During the storyline, Usagi's transformation powers up several times until she is finally able to transform into Eternal Sailor Moon. Each of Sailor Moon's "forms" uses different attacks, but rarely -- if ever -- does she use the attacks of a previous form once she has gained new abilities.
As Eternal Sailor Moon, Usagi's attack moves are:
Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss :: Eternal Sailor Moon uses her staff (the Eternal Tiare) to attack the enemy.
Silver Moon Crystal Power Therapy Kiss :: This is a more powered up version of the above attack.
Silver Moon Crystal Eternal Power :: Once Usagi has jumped into the Galaxy Cauldron and gathered the sailor crystals to her, she uses her own power and their power combined to perform this attack and destroy Chaos without completely destroying the cauldron.
